Finding the right Wordpress Theme for your blog isn’t always that easy. There are so many themes out their it can be difficult to decided which theme best fits your blog. Wordpress 2.6 Released

Wordpress 2.6 has been released and there are some great new features that come along with it.

press this - This is a bookmarklet that makes is simple for users to create links to other sites.

Post Revisions - This allows users to compare current and older versions of content.

Theme Support - This allows users to preview themes without having to make the live.

Word Count - Wordpress will now count how many words are in your posting. Great for those that get paid to blog.

Gears Support - This will cache or keep a copy of commonly-used Javascript and CSS files on your computer. This will help to speed up admin pages.

Top Blogger Templates

I recently I have been working on some new blogs, which I have been using Blogger.com to host. However, I found that the templates that were available to use I really did care for so I have been searching the net try to find some templates that would fit my desired layout. I have come across so great sites that have 1000’s of blogger templates. I have complied a list of the top five that I have come across and have listed them for you. If you are a blogger using blogger.com and are looking to give my blog a new look I would recommend that you give these sites a look and see if you can find a template that you like. Promoting your blog with EntreCard

If you are a blogger and you currently are not sign-up with EntreCard you should be. For those of you that don’t know what EntreCard is it is simply a widget that you place on your blog and you allow other bloggers to advertise their blogs through it. Now I realize that is a very vague description, but EntreCard is one of those things that you simply just have to sign-up for and try out yourself. However, lets talk a little bit about how you earn credits through EntreCard. When you first start out with EntreCard you will be able to being earning credits by dropping on other bloggers EntreCard, to do this simply visit other blogs that have an EntreCard and click on the drop bar that is attached to their EntreCard for each blog you drop on you will earn one credit. You will also earn credits when other bloggers drop on our EntreCard. You will also earn credits from the clicks that you receive through the advertising spots that you have purchased. Now this is a very broad over view of the features that EntreCard has to offer. Now you might ask yourself does EntreCard really drive traffic to blogs and the answer is yes. The first ad spot that I purchased which was for 128 credits drove over 75 unique visitors in 24 hours. EntreCard allows you the oppourtunity to advertise your blog on sites that you generally would not be able to if you were to purchase an advertising spot directly for the website host.

Alexa Rankings Fall

After Alexa released their new rankings yesterday many bloggers saw their Alexa rankings fall. The sudden drop in Alexa rankings is do to the fact that Alexa is now not only using there statistics from their Alexa Toolbar, but they are also getting traffic information from other sources. Alexa new overhaul to there rankings system has been cause by the fact that the old ranking system favored technical sites. As this comes as no surprise to most given that the old system only accounted for traffic were the visitor had the Alexa Toolbar installed and was active on their web browser. Alexa’s new system is much more accurate and providers people with a much better ranking. If your Alexa ranking fell yesterday don’t worry about it to much, because in reality your ranking now is much more accurate.

Unique Blog Designs

For most bloggers we don’t take the time or spend the money to have a custom theme developed for our blogs. Most bloggers are perfectly happy using a shared theme and most of the time they work just fine. However, there are benefits to have a custom theme for your blog. The most obvious benefit is that having a custom theme is going to set your blog apart from any other blog out there. Second, reason is that having a custom blog developed for your blog is going to allow you to decide exactly how you want the layout of your blog to be and exactly what you want it to look like. Now for a lot of us out there we simply just do not have the knowledge of CSS and PHP to be able to develop our own custom theme or simply do not have enough time to dedicate into developing the theme. So therefore we have to turn to a unique blog designer to develop the theme for us. Now I know most of you are thinking that you simply do not have the money or just can’t justify the cost of a custom theme and if so that is perfectly fine. You don’t need to have a custom theme to have a successful blog. For those of you that do have the means to get a custom theme for your blog it can be a great step in taking your blog to the next level. There are many freelancer designers out on the web today and finding one shouldn’t be that hard to do. I am currently myself in the market to have a custom theme developed for this blog and have spoken with a couple of designers and the prices that they have quoted really aren’t that bad. I have included a list of some custom theme designers below.

The day someone copied my blog posts

Well last night I was looking at my wordpress stats and noticed that I have an incoming link from another site. So i thought will that’s great someone one is linking back to my site. So I decided to take a look at the site that was linking back to my blog post. The link to the other blog came up as

http://beg0.blogspot.com/2008/03/adding-banner-to-your-blogger.html

Much to my surprise the post that was linking to my blog was actually the exact same post as a post that I had published on March 20 Adding a banner to your blogger. If you haven’t figured out what I am getting at the genius at beg0.blogspot.com had copied my post word for word and published it on their blog as their own. Not only did they copy my post word for word they also were displaying the pictures that I had included in the post. The funny thing about the pictures is that they were retrieving the pictures directly from my site. Which means that I have control over what the picture actually displays. This right here tells me that the individual behind this blog is not to bright. So what did I do we I changed the pictures. Heres what I changed them to.

So after changing the pictures I started looking at the other posts on this blog and sure enough I found another post that they had copied from my blog. Now at this point I am getting pretty mad. First, off this person is copying my blog post and second not giving me any credit for them. Well I wasn’t really sure what to do so I started surfing the net and found a post that Problogger had written in 2004 about this same situation and I am taking the advice that Darren has recommended. First, try to contact the owner of the blog and inform them that they need to remove the copied posts immediately. So I guess we will see what happens.

Adding a Banner to Minima Template

In my previous post I showed you how to add a banner to the Thisaway blogger template. Now lets look at how to add a banner to the Minima Blogger template. To add a banner to the Minima template is much easier to do than the Thisaway template because it doesn’t require that you add anything to the CSS. The ideal location for a banner on the Minima template is directly beneath the header. To add a banner directly under the header simply

Step 1 : login to your blogger account and click on the layout tab. Then select edit HTML

Step 2 : Scroll down to the end of your HTML code and locate the script

Step 3 : paste your banner code directly under

Step 4 : Click save template and your done.

You will notice in my example that I have provided that I place the banner code inside

. List will align the banner in the center of the page, and give you the ideal placement of your banner.

Adding a Banner to your Blogger

In this demonstration I am going to show you very easily how to add a 468 x 60 to the header of your blogger account. For this demonstration I will be using the theme Thisaway. To add a 468 x 60 banner to your blogger requires that we place three pieces of code inside your Blogger template.

Step 1: Once you have logged into your blogger account go to the layout tab and select edit html.

Step 2: The first piece of could that we need to enter into our template is a

inside our CSS. Now if you’re not familiar with programming don’t worry about it, just simple copy the code below.

#banner_468_60 {

float: right;

width: 468px;

height: 60px;

position: relative;

text-align: center;

padding-top: 2px;

padding-bottom: 2px;

padding-left: 2px;

padding-right: 2px;

}

Now you can place this piece of code anywhere within the CSS for the layout.

Step 3: Once we have defined the CSS for our banner now were are ready to place the

inside our template. Now you are going to want to place the

code wherever you are going to want your banners to show up at. For this demonstration we are going to place it inside the header. Simply copy the code before and place into your Blogger template. Since we are wanting our banner to show up in the header we must placed our code right below

, which you will find inside your template.

If you have done everything right you should be able to view your blogger and see you banner ad displayed in your banner.

Now to adjust the alignment of your banner simply go back to where you enter the CSS for the Banner and change the padding until you find the alignment that you like.

How to use RocketProfit Banners on Blogger

Using RocketProfit banners on your blogger account can be a little bit tricky. However, it can be done and is very simple to actually do. I have listed the steps and code need to add RocketProfit banners on your blogger.

Step 1: Create a New Campaign on your RocketProfit Account

Step 2: Now we need to generate the code you will need to add your RocketProfit Banner to your Blogger.

Paste Your RocketProfit Tracking Link Here‘>Image Height‘ src=’Name of File‘ width=’Image Width‘/>

The problem with this code is that RocketProfit instructs you to download the image file for your banner and upload it to your server. However, with blogger your can upload files or at least not in the way you would if you were using your own private domain with hosting.

So we need to get a link to the image file for your banner .

Step 3: Right Click on the banner image and click on properties. Copy the url that you see listed as Location. Place this code under Name of File in the code above.

Step 4: Enter in the banner width and height

Step 5: Login into your blogger account and add a new page element to your blog. (HTML/Javascript) Copy the code you created above and save the new page element.

Now you should see your new RocketProfit Banner on your Blogger.
