So, how does 1 Way Links work? After you sign up for an account with the service, you are able to add your Wordpress blogs to your account. Given the goal of the service, free Wordpress.com hosted blogs are not allowed in the network since they provide no IP diversity. The service uses Wordpress’ XMLRPC capabilities to automatically allow the 1 Way Links server to randomly add blog posts to any blog in the network on a randomized basis.

Once your blog is included in the network, you are given 250 “post credits” each month that allow you to submit your own blog posts to be published on other members’ blogs. Each post is allowed up to 3 links, so technically you can gain 750 total backlinks each month.

Overall, this is a good product for bloggers looking to build links in a steady, but quick manner. I don’t think the links you will get are near the quality of those provided by Linkvana, but at 1/3 the price 1 Way Links seems like a pretty good value.

1. The Morning After Theme

This theme is one of the best free Wordpress themes out there. It was created by Arun Kale and is setup like a magazine or newspaper. This is a very powerful theme, but you will have to do a little work to get the full benefit of it. You can find out all the details on The Morning After theme in the author’s release notes.

There are a few plugins that are required to get all of the extended features of the theme, but they are included in the download file. You will probably need to update them to the latest versions, but that should be no problem.

2. LightBreaker

The LightBreaker theme is perfect if you are looking to use adsense on your blog. The theme already has all of the adsense blocks set up for you, you just have to change the publisher-id to your id. In addition, the sidebar is set up with several 125×125 ads that will enable you to include your affiliate ads or sell ad space to others. There is also a 468×60 head banner spot for further advertising.

Overall, this is a very professional looking theme and is perfect for blogs that are not aiming for the magazine or newspaper layout.

3. Mimbo Magazine Style

Mimbo is another really good free magazine-style theme for Wordpress. Like The Morning After Theme, Mimbo does take a little bit of effort to get set up, but once you have it up and running, you’ll love it. The theme’s author even created specific notes to get you up and running.

Mimbo is very professional looking and can get you that premium blog look without the cost of a premium theme.

1. It’s ok to use a captcha image to prevent spam, but don’t make the verification a major pain for users. If your readers can’t get the captcha right within 2 tries, they will go elsewhere. It is best to shy away from the interactive verifications that involve adding numbers or answering questions about the color of the sky. Stick to a short and fairly easy to ready combination of letters and/or numbers.
2. Keep your forms simple. If you have no reason to know a user’s address, don’t include the field. Even if the field is not required for submission, it will just cause unnecessary clutter for your readers. Also, make sure that required fields are clearly marked so readers can fill each in the first time around.
3. Keep privacy in mind. Many people are very nervous (rightfully so) about their privacy online. Unless you really need the extra information, try to keep your forms free of any fields that ask for private information like addresses or phone numbers. Even if these fields aren’t required, they can scare nervous users off. If you can get by with a first name and an email address…do it.
4. Don’t include unnecessary buttons. Most forms require only one button, Submit. Users can delete information or reload the form themselves…they don’t need a clear button to do it. Plus, few things are more frustrating than accidentally hitting that clear button when you mean to hit submit!
5. Make the form fields big enough to show what the user is typing. It is better to make the fields a little larger than you think they need to be than for them to be too small. It is very annoying for visitors to not be able to see what they have typed into a field.
6. Finally, make sure you provide some sort of confirmation that the form submitted successfully. Even a very simple notice on the screen will suffice. Users just want to know that it went through correctly.

Quality back-links are the key to any site ranking well in the search engine results pages. The search engines look highly upon webpages that that are often linked to by other sites. If you have tried to build these high PR links to your website, you know how difficult and time comsuming it is. That’s where the Linkvana service comes in. The way that Linkvana works is by allowing members to create blog posts that are posted on high-quality blogs with Pageranks of 2 and up. Each post can contain one link to any page of your choosing, and the member can even control the exact anchor text of the link. This is a very important and valuable feature, as it allows you to focus your marketing on optimal keywords in order to maximize traffic from the search engines. Linkvana allows members an unlimited number of posts and domains, but it does limit the number of posts per domain to around 5 per day. This is actually a very useful limit because it allows your links to build gradually and in a more natural manner. When the search engines see a large number of links pop up out of nowhere, it could get you flagged for spam.

There is another great benefit to the Linkvana service that is applicable to bloggers. The posts that you write are posted on good and reputable blogs and will result in increases to your Techorati authority level. This can push your blog up the ranks of Technorati and potentially generate even more traffic.

Linkvana is by far the best link-building service that I’ve used, but there are a few drawbacks. One is that this is more of a do-it-yourself service. Each blog posting must be completely original and is required to be at least 100 words in length. Linkvana will write posts for you for the low price of $2 per post. You just have to tell them where to link to and what anchor text to use…their expert writers handle the rest.

Unfortunately, Linkvana has one other major disadvantage, its cost. The service has a very steep price tag of $147 per month. This makes the service unaffordable for many marketers, but the high price helps to maintain the quality of the service by keeping the number of members lower.

Linkvana may not a good choice for those just starting off in online marketing, but it provides a very valuable service to more experienced marketers that are looking for ways to increase traffic. Linkvana does exactly what it was designed to do and you can see benefits for your targeted keywords very quickly. I would caution you to make sure that you either have the time to write the linkvana posts or have the budget to outsource them. Each post doesn’t take long to write, but if you fall behind and don’t have posts ready, you won’t fully benefit from the service.

So, what does make a good anchor text? You want to do your best to include your targeted keyword(s) in the link text whenever possible. Avoid keyword stuffing that results in unnatural sounding text, but if you can use the keywords, go for it. When the search engines find these backlinks to your blog, they will associate the blog with the anchor text and this will boost your rankings in the search engines for these terms.

My favorite way to create great text links is to write the text as if there was no link at all. Then I go back and add the link into the text and anchor it with the most relevant term in the text that I wrote. This method helps to ensure that the content of the page is as natural as possible. Search engines love natural looking links.

One of the most common mistakes that is made is to use action statements like “click here” or “visit the website” as the anchor text for a link. This sort of link can still help pass PageRank to your page, but it won’t do much in terms of moving your page up in the search rankings. Try to put the link on the more descriptive words, not on the actions.

The NoDoFollow extension is one that all webmasters should have installed. This handy little tool makes it extremely easy to immediately tell which links are “nofollow” and which are not. This can  be used to tell if a blog follows links in its comments. You can activate the extension at any time by simply right-clicking and selecting the “NoDoFollow” option. When turned on, all of the links on the webpage you are viewing will be color coded based on their status. Links that pass Pagerank will be highlighted in blue and those that are “nofollow” will be pink. This saves you the time of reading the source code to determine if the links pass PR or not.

Another helpful extension is the Autofill Forms extension. This little add-on allows you to automatically fill out webforms in a similar manner to Roboform. This can be very useful to quickly fill out the name, email,  and website fields that are usually required when posting blog comments. Together with the NoDoFollow, you will be ready to start your blog comment marketing campaign.
