A high Alexa ranking doesn’t really mean that much. A websites rank is determined by the number of visitors that a site receives where those visitors have the Alexa Toolbar installed. I guess one could use there sites Alexa ranking to determine where there blog ranks in terms of bloggers, since most bloggers probably have the Alexa Toolbar installed. Alexa ranking is an unreliable tool for measuring how your site ranks on the web, because it is simply to easy to manipulate. However, you are only able to manipulate your ranking so much. You are not going to be able to manipulate your way into the top 100,000 and let’s face it if you’re not in the top 100,000 your Alexa ranking doesn’t really mean that much anyways. On a positive note there has been a lot of talk from webmaster that say that the change in their Alexa ranking and the change in there website traffic have been directly proportional. Alexa ranking is not going to improve your search engine rankings or page rank. However, it is a number to keep your eye on. If you are able to get your blog into the top 100,000, then you are doing a really good job and your traffic levels should reflect that.
